Interview

Hi. I had my interview for CLS at KUMed Friday. It went awesome, or at least I thought it did. Of course, getting to KUMed took all of 5 minutes, as did parking, so I got to anxiously wait for 30 minutes. I first had to take a written portion of the interview, which consisted of a few logic questions and an essay that assessed your character. It had questions like "Your friends all want to go out and drink, but you have your final exam tomorrow and need to study. What do you do?" Because I have absolutley no moral fiber, this part was difficult.
After the written portion, it was on to the speaking part, which I was most nervous about because I tend not to be very verbally articulate. It was a breeze also. I even got to mention that I have a pet rat! The whole thing probably went well because it was my dad's birthday, and I'm sure it was good luck.
Saturday went well too. I had to serve dinner at a fundraiser, but got to spend the majority of my evening working in the soda bar with Chad. It was for a 16th birthday party, and those kids were HAMMERED. I don't want to sound old and crusty, but really, I can't imagine being 15/16 and be stumbling drunk at a party at which I know there will be parents. Weird.

This picture is irrelevant, but how cute is Penny?!

What's This?

We used this in Organic today. You cannot tell me that this doesn't look like a....smoking apparatus. It's really small, but still, that's what it looked like. It's actually called a Hickman Head with side port.

Losing It!

Things have been stressful! Nothing I'm not used to, but nothing I like either. School has just been intense and fast, and whatever time I have off is spent at work or resting. Ugh! This has led to one problem in particular: I lose things (besides my mind). I lost my wallet sometime around last Wednesday, and just realized it was gone on Monday because I never have it on me. I cleaned my entire house looking for it (and made everyone else look at their houses, sorry!) , and moved on to look in my car. I thought it would probably be under the passenger seat because I always throw it there. I looked 3 or 4 times under the seat, and no luck. I went to shut the passenger door, and lo and behold, there it was! Propped up against the seat. I have no idea how it got there because I would have had to move it to look under the seat. It was probably magic or divine intervention. This was good timing too, because I was about to call the bank to cancel my debit card. Lucky Candice!
I did have an excellent Valentine's day. It was rocky at first because Chad didn't make reservations until like, a week before the day. So, instead of going somewhere cool downtown, I had to eat in JOHNSON COUNTY. Ugh. We got to the restaurant at 6:50 and told the host we had reservations for 7. He said it would be a 30-40 minute wait. ???? Apparently Haru's does not understand that concept. I felt kind of bad for the host, because a ton of people were trying to get in without reservations and were pissed because it was a 3 hour wait if you wanted to sit at the fire table. It was only a 20 minute wait, and the food was awesome. Plus, my mom suprised me with a gift (chocolates and money) when I was there! I loved it!

I Am Not Crazy!

A couple Saturdays ago was the Polar Plunge!!! It was awesome. I decided to partake for the bragging rights and for the good cause. It was at Shawnee Mission Park at noon. The weather that day was in the upper 50's, but was very windy, so yes, it was still cold. The scary part was that when I got there they were still cutting a hole in the ice for the plungers to go in! Brrr!!! Even so, I was prepped and ready in my Sailor Moon costume and Nike Shox. After lots of waiting and free cookies/coffee, it was time to plunge. I was the third group to go in. My plan was to run in up to my hips, and go right back out. As soon as I hit the water, my legs were numb, and I sort of fell all the way into the water. This made for a nice ride home as my hair was wet and lake-scented. All in all, I would do it again in a second. It was the best $75 I could have spent! For people that read this, please please please consider taking part next year! Here are good reasons:

1. It's for an awesome cause: The Special Olympics!
2. It is a blast!
3. The cold water isn't as bad as you would think. You mostly just go numb.
4. Bragging rights
5. Free sweatshirt (it's really soft!)
6. Lots of awesome people are there with cool costumes.
7. There's a chili-cookoff afterparty (not my cup of tea, but whatever.)

So please join me next year for the plunge!

Not that bad!

Gross

I have always been a staunch believer in following strict social rules. One of which includes not passing gas in a public setting if you are in close quarters of other people, especially strangers. Apparently, the guy behind me in the computer lab right now doesn't follow the same system of beliefs. Yes, it's him there is nobody else here. Gross.
If you've talked to me in the past year, you know I have been very anxious about my acceptance into the program I want at KUMed. The other day, I mentioned my major in passing to a classmate and she said, "Really? That's what I'm going to major in also. I just applied today. Have you been accepted?" Um, no, because the application deadline was the next day, and acceptance isn't until March/April. She then said that the uppers of the program said that "as long as you have all your pre-reqs, you'll get in." What?! All this worrying for nothing? I'm still suspicious of what she told me. If this is true, why bother putting all the applicants through an interview process? That sounds like a silly waste of time.

Maybe I'm overthinking?

Kansas v. Missouri

I can't pull the "the weather in Kansas changes every 5 minutes" card because I don't live there anymore, but KCMO is close enough. Seriously!!! 65 lovely degrees Thursday (and I had to waste the afternoon being coatcheck) and then snow and 9 degrees Friday. Nice. I got stuck behind someone on I-35 that was not comfortable going above 45 mph or staying in one lane. Let me mention this was 4 hours after the snow stopped, and it was a dusting. Something I noticed is that the highway was completely dry until I reached Kansas City Kansas. Then, what ever they used made a huge mess of my poor car. I'm glad I didn't wash it when it was 65 degrees. Then again, I haven't washed my car in about 1 year.
On a better note, I'm getting used to being in class for 10 hours a day. The professors I have are very fun and laid back, so it makes time go that much faster. I'm just ready to be done with community college and move on.
On an EVEN better note, Mercapto has settled in nicely. He eats a lot (sunflower seeds especially), and loves to sleep in my dad's blankets. What's surprising is how much people like him after they get over the initial shock that he has no hair. No one can resist that adorable pink nose and curly whiskers!

Wind Chimes

Okay, I'll come right out and say it: I'm afraid of wind chimes. There I said it, I hate them. The neighbors across the street have them. Every time I go on my front porch, I hear them, my heart races and I try to get back inside as soon as possible. There's also a wind chime kiosk at the mall that is stupid AND scary at the same time! I have no idea why I'm afraid of them, but it's embarrassing to admit. The other day, I drove by my old daycare provider's house and noticed that there were no less than one DOZEN wind chimes on her back deck!!! No doubt, those ghostly bells of death would have quickly driven me mad had they been there back in my day. Now, the "chimes" on a house down the street made out old beer bottles and wire? They lack the ominous toll of conventional chimes and just sound like a bar. Those aren't scary, just odd.

This is never a good gift idea for me.
